Golden Icon Award to Cate Blanchett 
Main awards to SOUND OF METAL, COLLECTIVE and SYSTEMSPRENGER

The main juries of the 15th Zurich Film Festival’s three competition categories have awarded their Golden Eyes to SOUND OF METAL by Darius Marder (International Feature Film), COLLECTIVE by Alexander Nanau (International Documentary Film) and SYSTEMSPRENGER by Nora Fingscheidt (Focus: Switzerland, Germany, Austria). The awards in the two international competition categories are each endowed with a CHF 25’000 cash prize; the award in the Focus: Switzerland, Germany, Austria category is endowed with a CHF 20’000 cash prize. The Golden Icon Award was given to Cate Blanchett.

The Audience Award goes to VOLUNTEER by Anna Thommen and Lorenz Nufer, the Kids Jury Award goes to ZU WEIT WEG by Sarah Winkenstette, and the Audience Award in the ZFF for Kids section goes to INVISIBLE SUE by von Markus Dietrich from Germany.

The Golden Icon Award, the Festival’s most prestigious symbol of recognition, was given to Cate Blanchett. Five years after presenting BLUE JASMINE at the Zurich Film Festival (ZFF), Academy Award® winning actress Cate Blanchett was back in Zurich to be honoured with the Golden Icon Award on October 5th. Zurich Film Festivals co-founders Nadja Schildknecht and Karl Spoerri were thrilled to welcome her again in Zurich: “She’s one of the finest character actor’s of present day Hollywood and is one of the most versatile actors in the film business. She has brought many unforgettable characters to life on the big screen in films.” These include Galadriel in the LORD OF THE RINGS film trilogy and the villainous Soviet agent Irina Spalko in INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL. “We were honoured to present Cate Blanchett with our Golden Icon Award at this year’s Festival”, said  Schildknecht und Spoerri. In addition to the Golden Icon Award, Cate Blanchett presented her new film WHERE’D YOU GO, BERNADETTE during the festival.

Best Actress goes to QUEEN OF HEARTS by Trine Dyrholm and best Directing goes to MANO DE OBRA / WORKFORCE by David Zonana. 

International Documentary Film Competition

Audience Award
Given to the best film from the three competition categories as chosen by viewers, the Audience Award goes to:
 VOLUNTEER by Anna Thommen and Lorenz Nufer.

Kids Jury Award
The Kids Jury gives their award to:
 ZU WEIT WEG by Sarah Winkenstette, and the Audience Award in the ZFF for Kids section goes to INVISIBLE SUE by von Markus Dietrich from Germany.

Best Series
Best International TV Series goes to: JUST FOR TODAY by Nir Bergman und Ram Nehari. The award is endowed with a CHF 10’000 cash prize.

Science Film Award
Presented by Eye On Science goes to Niklaus Hilber for BRUNO MANSER - DIE STIMME DES REGENWALDES. "A sweeping and urgent topical film about the preservation of forests, biodiversity and the importance of respecting human rights", applauded the jury.
